Oliver was next in the birthday lineup. We were so thankful that although he had just started at his new school two weeks before, he already had two close friends he wanted to celebrate his birthday with - Caio and José. We did a simple, short party at a local indoor trampoline park (it is wild to think we now live in a city with places like this!) and enjoyed a cake decorated with his favorite soccer team - Manchester City.
Oliver has grown and changed a lot. He is no longer our super timid kid - the one who went his whole first year at school never talking to his teachers and crying at the thought of being in front of others - to being friends with everyone in his class, asking an employee for a price at a store, playing on a soccer team with all older kids. While he can have his moments/challenges, he can also be so incredibly kind and helpful to others. And he is so sweet to see with his new baby sister Maya!
2022 to 2023 was a year full of changes - cities, countries, school, friends, teams, church - but Oliver did pretty well through it all. Though he was sad to leave friends in Arapiraca, he impressed us all by joining a soccer team and attending a soccer camp in Tallahassee where he didn't know anyone. And while it was hard to enter a new school in Brasília in the middle of the school year, we are so thankful that he is making friendships there as well. Looking forward to what the future holds for our foodie soccer player!
