Our Big 4 Year Old!

HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY CARTER!  I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that we have a four year old.  He's no longer a baby (well, to the rest of the world at least), he's not a toddler, and most wouldn't even call him a preschooler.  He's a full-blown KID!  He brings us so much joy and laughter each and every day.  (As I'm writing this I'm listening to his cackles in the other room as he plays with his daddy.)

We celebrated both of the boys' birthdays this past weekend with a pirate themed party at our house (see my last post), and we lucked out today with school being cancelled for a Catholic holiday so we get to have a fun Carter day on his birthday as just our family :)  The plan is to start with some birthday pancakes, have a fun morning of opening/playing with presents, lunch and naps, followed by a trip to Carter's favorite place...the mall! haha.  It cracks us up how much he likes to go there.

Carter is now in the equivalent of PK-4 (their school year runs January-December though) and is constantly impressing us with his growth in both his schoolwork and Portuguese.  He's been a little slow developing linguistically, but is now speaking and understanding so much in both languages - it's truly amazing!

He goes to school five days a week from 7:30-11:30 (school only lasts a half day here), comes home to play a little and eat lunch, takes an afternoon nap (yes, we are very grateful that he still naps most every day) that can range from 1.5-4 hours, plays some more, eats dinner, takes a bath, and goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:00.  (This is of course when we are actually at home all day).  He has become very 'Brazilian' and flexible as he can't always take a nap (like on the days we go to the village) and sometimes has to go to bed around 10 or 10:30 (for example, on Sundays after church).

He loves going to the village with us and playing with the children there.  We are so thankful that the Lord has called not only Nick and I, but our entire family to this ministry, and that Carter enjoys it so much!  He's also to the age where he really looks forward to going to school and church so that he can see his friends :)

We are so blessed to have Carter William as our firstborn and truly treasure these years we've had so far with him.

Now for his yearly birthday survey!  This year, I asked him the questions, but will also include my responses for him in italics (as a lot of his answers were based on things he's done the last few days instead of on his life overall)
