Children's Day

There is a 'day' for just about everything down here: mothers, fathers, grandparents, teachers, women, etc.  Well, earlier this month we celebrated 'Children's Day.'  In actuality, it was celebrated the entire week leading up to it.  For example, at Carter's school, each day that week had a different theme, special art project, and little gift.  Here he is dressed up for costume day:
(we didn't have much of a heads up so we put him in a little Brazilian soccer outfit we had bought for him a while ago, threw on a headband, and called him 'Neymar' - a famous player here)

On Saturday, our church had a program for children.  We ended up having up having 35-40 kids with lots of visitors :)  I was in charge of crafts and the youngest kiddos make lion masks (they studied Daniel and the lion's den) and the older kids made shields and bags of rocks, which were actually candy (they studied David and Goliath).  We also decided to twist balloon swords for everyone but with the combination of cheap balloons and terrible pumps, I'm pretty sure we popped more than we made...it was somewhat of a disaster!  Basically the day was like a one-day VBS with music, puppets, bible stories, crafts, snacks, and play time.  Overall, it was a great time!
