I wanted to give you guys an update on the girls' bible study I have each Wednesday night at our apartment. We are up to 9 regular girls - praise God - when we started with 2. Here's a quick glimpse as to what our Wednesday nights look like:
6:30 - pick up 6-7 girls at their houses (their parents don't have cars and our apartment is too far for them to walk). Also, our car only has three extra seats, so this involves putting several of them in the trunk! (It's not quite as bad as it seems, we have a Blazer). But I still feel really bad opening the back for them to cram in...although it's the only way I can get them to my house! At seven, the rest of the girls are dropped off at my house by their parents.
7:15-8:15 - we have our Bible study and practice our Bible verses
8:00 - we make a craft or play their favorite dance game on our Xbox. Also, I work on preparing some sort of dinner for them.
9:45 - cram in the car again to drive everyone home.
10:30 - I make it back home. It's not a big city we live in, but the girls seem to live in each corner of it, so it takes a while to drop off everyone!
When we first started meeting, we read through and studied 1 Timothy. After that, we began an 8-week study on what the life of a believer should look like. We finished that two weeks ago, and are now talking about the importance of our personal testimonies. I gave the girls a general outline of what they could include in their testimony, asked them to practice during the week, and then asked if they would share (if they were comfortable) last week. I thought a few would share when we met again, but I was blown away that all nine did! There was a lot of raw emotion as I learned about several of their difficult pasts but there was also so much encouragement in the faith of these young girls. A majority of them are the only believers in their families and are broken over the lost-ness of those they love. Please join with me in praying for the continuing growth in these girls' walks with the Lord and for the salvation of their families.
Another thing we do each week is memorize a Bible verse (in Portuguese, of course). It is definitely a challenge for me, but I'm happy to be building my repertoire :)
Now for some pictures of our time together:
