As I mentioned before, we've been playing a lot of volleyball since we've moved here - which has been a GREAT way to get out in the community, practice our Portuguese, make some new friends, and have fun! In August, I (Amber) played in the first phase of the Jogos Abertos (Open Games) of our state (Goias). We advanced to the regional competition, which took place in a town a little over an hour from here, September 21-22. We had two matches on Saturday and one on Sunday....and we won all of our matches in just 2 sets each! We will now advance to the state competition in the capital at the end of November (I believe it begins on Thanksgiving). And although there's about zero chance of us winning anything there (we'll be playing against teams with semi-professional athletes!) it will definitely be a fun experience :)
I am also playing for our city's team in the Liga do Norte. This is a league that has 1-2 tournaments per month. We will travel to cities 2-4 hours away and have one weekend of play in our own city. Everyone is acting very excited because their city has an 'American' playing for them, haha. I hope I don't bring down the hype too much...Our first game will be this weekend in a city about 3 hours away (we'll drive three hours in the morning, play, and immediately drive the three hours back...yuck!) Our team has come in second the last two years so I think they're definitely ready to claim the title this year ;)
It's so exciting and wonderful God is blessing yawl in soooo many ways. Getting to use your natural talents and the things you enjoy to effect the world for Him. So glad you are strong, you are 1 and you love the Lord our God with all your mind, strength and heart. And, your neighbor as yourself! miss you, Momma and Daddy
