It's A Joyously Busy Life

I know, I know, it's been forever since my last post...I have no excuse other than I have a three month old and I'm taking three classes.

This post may be more of a rambling of what's been going on with us, so consider that a fair warning :)

School is up and running! We've managed to balance school, work and home life pretty well so far but we're also still in the beginning of the semester and haven't had too much due...I feel like I devote all of my time to Carter and school work (so much for being a good wife and housekeeper), but am able to get it all done. However, I've pretty much just had regular weekly assignments so far (and just one book review). I'm really getting nervous as to how I'm going to tackle 3 research papers and exams - eek! Nick's feeling the same way. The poor guy works all day and has class on Monday nights. When he comes home he wants to play with Carter but also knows he needs to be reading for school. We'll figure it out :)

Carter is doing fantastic. I love that little goober sooooo much. He had gotten up to 12 hours of sleep per night for a while in August but has reverted back to a little less these days. I moved him out of his bassinet last week and into his crib. He's been doing very well and not waking up too much during the night. He'll maybe fuss around 5 or 6 am and I'll go in, put his pacifier back in, and then sleep until 8 or 9. He's been having a cycle of good or bad days and I've tracked his demeanor to his naps. If he gets a good first nap after 'breakfast' the rest of our day is pretty smooth sailing. But if that first nap is not long and happy, you'd better watch out the rest of the day! So far I haven't found much rhyme or reason to making that first nap successful but he's having a good one right now so that hopefully means we will have a fun afternoon :)

He is smiling up a storm and it melts my heart every time. When I get him up in the morning and he gives me that gummy grin, I couldn't ask for a better start to my day. His favorite place to be is still on his changing table and that is where we heard his first laugh :) And almost all of his subsequent laughs since then. It is the sweetest sound - maybe I'll try to upload a video of it one of these days...

We have his 4 month check-up next week (how is that possible?!?). At his last weigh-in, which has been 3 weeks ago now, he was 13 lbs 8 oz. I'm most curious to see how long he has gotten as he is quickly outgrowing all of his clothes!

Nick and I started playing intramural volleyball last night (we won both our games, whoop whoop!). It's definitely a little frustrating how bad I am - not having played for 9 months and still not completely recovered from delivery (could it take any longer?!?) but it's really fun to be out there again and feel my coordination slowly making its way back. And I love it's something Nick and I can do together.

Another thing I've been trying to do recently is some crafting - handmade bracelets, necklaces, home decorations, wipes cases, etc. I'd really like to do this for a little extra income on the side (I know it won't be much) but haven't figured out the best avenue for doing so just yet. I know there's Etsy - but there is sooo much on that site I'm not sure anyone would find my page and buy my things....Then there's making your own website - but I don't have that much and don't know how people would find it. I guess I could advertise on Facebook? I was also thinking about maybe renting a booth at a local craft fair to gauge if people would really even be interested in anything I could make. I really don't feel that talented, just thought I would do it for fun and gifts, but the first Sunday I wore one of my bracelets to church, a girl payed me to make two for her! So I thought, hey, maybe this could work...If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Nick's mom came out over Labor Day weekend and it was GREAT to see her! The timing was also perfect as we had an IMB meeting and interview and didn't have to worry about who we could leave Carter with. We should hopefully be finding out where we might be going next year by the middle of October! And my parents are coming out then for a quick visit and will be able to be at baby dedication Sunday at our church.

Wow, I really have rambled....sorry!

Here are some pictures my friend Sarah Robinson took of Carter at 3 months:

  1. I love Etsy since so meany people know about it. Your customers can pay online really easy, and everything is set up for you! I've thought about doing my own website, but the traffic isn't there... If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me!
