For Carter's 14th birthday (yes, you read that right - FOURTEENTH), he just wanted to hang out with his friends. So we invited the crew over and they hung out for a bit. Carter planned out a Mario Kart championship on the Super Nintendo which was fun, and then we piled into the van (and our car) to head to Johnny Rockets! We had a large table reserved on the second floor of the restaurant and were able to introduce most of his friends to the retro diner, soda fountain drinks, and American cheeseburgers. Funnily enough, I think everyone's favorite part was running around on the kiddie playground, haha. Like his brother, Carter also requested I make ooey gooey bars instead of getting a cake, so we sang happy birthday and then dug in. (Well, we were pretty stuffed after the unlimited french fries and soda pops, so maybe dug in isn't the right terminology). All in all, I think our guy had a pretty good night.
My little Carter bug truly isn't so little anymore. He's got just an inch or so to catch up to me in height, has some chin hairs (haha), and is responsible enough to walk home from school on his own and stay with his siblings if Nick and I need to run out. He continues to be a kind boy with a good heart and we are so very proud of him. He's still playing basketball at school, and after two years of being the only boy in his grade on the team and paying his dues a little on the bench, he is now a leader on the team with 5 or 6 other boys from his class. We sure do love him and look forward to watching him grow in the coming years. (But also can't believe how short our time left with him at home is...)
