(Before I begin, in full transparency, it is currently September 10th and I am sitting down to write this birthday post from the end of May. However, in my defense, I truly believe I already wrote this post and it somehow didn't save! Oh well, here we go again...)
On May 24th, our second little dude turned 11 years old. To celebrate, he decided to have a movie night with his friends the day before. On Friday, May 23rd, three of Oliver's best friends (Nathan, João Francisco, and Vítor) came home with us from school. They enjoyed an "American" lunch (PB&J sandwiches, fruit, and chips) and had fun playing in the backyard on our new (to us) zipline, playing ping-pong on our new (to us) table, swimming in our neighbors' pool, and, of course, playing soccer. Then at 6:00, more friends came over for some time of playing in the yard, followed by a movie on the lawn. We had popsicles, ordered pizza, popped a lot of popcorn, and sang happy birthday - not with a cake, but with ooey gooey bars (at Oliver's request). I loved the simple party and watching Oliver laugh and play with all of his friends.
We are thankful for all the friendships Oliver has made and proud that Oliver seems to be a friend to all. It's wild that he's already in his last year of elementary school and becoming more and more independent. (Where is my chubby-cheeked toddler?!). Oliver is very social and always wants to be playing or doing an activity with someone. He continues to play futsal (indoor soccer) at school and has also started going to diving practice this year. Oliver is very generous and giving, but also has a little rebellious streak that only seems to come out at home...His teachers don't believe us when we tell them about it, haha.
