DJ Carter

It's difficult to type this...but on June 4th, Carter turned TEN years old! That's double digits folks!  He's no longer a little kid, but not quite an adolescent...it's an interesting time and I'm clinging to what feels like these last few years of true childhood.  He already asks to give me my goodbye hug before we round the corner to his classroom at school drop off, and he likes to remind me that he's a preteen.  But he still likes cartoons and laughs at the silliest jokes and enjoys cuddling his mama.  He truly does have a tender heart, and because of this has found most of his best friends to be little girls in his class these past couple of years.  While things have been a little wonky the past year and a half with the pandemic, he's gotten back into somewhat of a routine and is enjoying several extracurricular activities, including soccer, futsal (indoor soccer), ukulele, and voice lessons.  He's doing wonderfully in both national school and homeschool and more than anything, it's been a joy to watch him grow in his knowledge of the Bible.  The most exciting thing that happened in Carter's life this past year? He was able to be baptized by his daddy in the São Francisco River with two sets of M aunts and uncles there to celebrate with us.

This year for Carter's birthday he said he wanted to do something simple so it wouldn't cost us too much money and something that would be covid safe.  We brainstormed and he came up with an outdoor party at the end of our road with music, karaoke, dancing, and a movie on a big screen.  Of course, at the end of the day, this probably cost us more than a regular party would have, haha, but we loved his sweet heart of wanting to do something that wasn't too elaborate so that his friends from various parts of his life would all feel comfortable and have fun.  It rained pretty much the whole week leading up to the party, and then for a good bit of the day of the party, but thankfully it stopped in time for us to have wonderful night outside.  The theme of his party was "DJ" and we had a neon cake made and speaker goodie boxes for his friends.
