So our sweet, fun-loving Carter has turned into the whine-y, tantrum-throwing Carter :( We're not exactly sure if it's the terrible 2's coming early or if he's having a little trouble with all this transition, but we are sure these screams are crazy! No, he's not a terror all day, he's still our sweet Carter-bug, but when the mood strikes, you'd better watch out ;) Most of the time the episodes seem to stem from having to do something he doesn't want to do (i.e. walk a different direction, go back up to our apartment, put down a book, etc). We're still working on the best method to deal with his fits so that we can be be consistent in how we treat him. Maybe it's a combination of the terrible twos and transition and we can get it all out of the way in one fell swoop :)
Overall, he is doing great in his new home! He's sleeping at night and napping during the day great (despite the extremely noisy street we live on and the school that's directly behind us). He seems to be enjoying our new apartment, likes to ride on the elevator, climb the ramps in the parking garage, play with the other children, and as always, loves being outside. We're having a little bit of trouble finding things he will eat (he was unfortunately, already a slightly picky eater in the states and our choices here are pretty limited). I'm working on finding things he likes while maintaining a somewhat balanced diet (cheese, yogurt, applesauce, and cookies doesn't quite accommodate the food pyramid, haha).
He had his 'first kiss' last night at church. A little girl who is 2, ran up and tried to kiss Carter on the cheek. He ducked and said no, causing her to run away. A few minutes later, she came back and Carter proceeded to pucker his lips, bend down his head, close his eyes, and slowly scoot forward until his lips were right in front of her lips. Oh dear, we have a ladies' man on our hands...
Can't believe he's 20 months! There is no way he has another birthday coming up...
You are going to be sooo happy you did this journaling. Hope you take time occasionally to read back over these entries. Might be a nice tradition to do that with Carter in his birthday week each year. I did that for a while with you but with our home videos - wish I had insisted we keep that up even after you got older with your own ideas and busy schedule :)
