Most of you probably know that I'm not much of a cook. (And if you really know me, you understand who it is that might have handed down this 'gene'). Don't get me wrong, I do cook - but dinner has always been things like grilled chicken and canned/frozen veggies or tacos or casseroles or pizza from pillsbury dough. So here in Brazil where things like Bisquick and Green Giant aren't sold (and where I've yet to learn the language to read labels or ask questions) it's been a little more difficult to prepare meals.
I have been making some things from scratch and am on a Pinterest prowl to find homemade recipes and substitutes for common grocery store items in the U.S.A. (cream of chicken soup and brownie mix...can I get an amen?!)
Here are some of the things I've made from raw materials so far:
applesauce
pancakes
cheeseburger pie
pizza dough/pizza
bone-in, skin-on chicken (there's no Tyson here people, haha)
dry beans
macaroni and cheese
and this chicken concoction
(with the language barrier, we ended up with WAY too much chicken at the market the other day, so we are scrambling to find different ways to prepare it...and room in our bellies to eat that much chicken!)
If you have any favorite dishes that don't require any pre-made ingredients (or if you know good substitutes), I would LOVE for you to share them with me!!! Send me an e-mail at thesrokas@hotmail.com or a facebook message. My family would thank you very much :)
Have you acquired all the recipes you sought? Or, should I go through my box and scan to you (genes and all!) :)
ReplyDeleteJessica Byler was a lovely bride last Sunday. We gave her the famous spoonula, best knives known to mankind and the FBC cook book. Maybe I should have scoured it 1st for you.
