When we walked out of the airport with all of our baggage in
tow, we were greeted by five missionaries already working here in Brazil (two
from the town will spend our first year in studying language). The boys loaded up the van, we bought Subway
sandwiches for the trip, and we hit the road from Brasilia to Goianesia (about
a 3.5 hour trip). Nick drove our car
(yes, we are provided a car – how awesome is that?!), a guy who is already in
language school in Goianesia sat in the passenger seat, and Carter and I were
in the back. Carter conked out the first
hour and a half (which is a huge feat if you know him…he doesn’t tend to sleep
on car rides), Nick and I learned a lot from Josh and enjoyed the beautiful
Brazilian countryside. We’re talking
super green rolling hills the whole way through. We made just one pit stop and arrived in our
city with quite the greeting crew J With all their help, we got our bags
upstairs, visited for a few minutes, and once everyone left we put Carter down
for a nap (we had to wake him up around 6!!!), and Nick and I got to work
unpacking. It was a disaster for a
while, trying to find the right place for everything, but it’s really coming
together and starting to truly feel like home J And let me back up and tell you what an
amazing apartment it is! We are on the 3rd floor of the tallest
building in the city (it’s 10 stories), there are 2 apartments per floor, it’s
got some amazing closet space (if you know me, you know I’m thrilled, haha), a
balcony with a pretty spectacular view, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and did I
mention it’s furnished? We are truly blessed! (and probably a little bit
spoiled…) But before you go thinking we’re living the high life (which we
undoubtedly are in Brazilian terms), let me just throw in there’s no
dishwasher, hot water in the sinks, dryer, or air conditioning and we have to
filter and boil our water so that it’s safe J
I’ll try to post a video tour of our place eventually, but for now, here’s the
view from our balcony! God is good
check out Carter's hair after waking up from his first nap...someone's not used to the heat and humidity, haha
Was it our Josh that rode with you??? Just love having two generations of "our" people there now. Yay for Nick for driving!! LOVE your view! SO happy you have a nice apartment.
ReplyDeleteyes it was 'your' josh :) their whole family speaks so highly of you guys (and i of course have to agree!) miss you!
ReplyDeleteHave you found that Carter (you and Nick too) will acclimate to the heat at least to some degree?
