One Blessed Mama

I know Mother's Day is for recognizing your own mother, of whom I am very grateful, but as this is my first time spending the holiday as a mom, I can't help but reflect on this past year.

Carter, who has been sleeping through the night (I'm talking 12 hours people) for 3 months now, woke up tonight around 12:45 crying.  At first, I ignored his fusses, hoping he would roll over and fall back asleep, but when that didn't happen, I went in to check on him.  Baby boy was upset.  Nothing was wrong, he just needed some loving.  And as I picked him up, and rocked him in the glider, cradling him in my arms as if he were a newborn again, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with happiness.  This precious baby was mine.  He has made me a mom.  Even though he is growing physically and growing more independent, and even though he'll be one in just a few short weeks, he still needs cuddles from his mama.  I treasure these moments, not upset over the lack of sleep, because I know in the blink of an eye, I'll be longing for these days long gone.

I don't do everything right, far from it.  But I love my little guy and pray I am doing best for him.  Mother's Day is about recognizing others, and I can't help but recognize my Carter: the beautiful person he is and will one day grow to be.

And for all you other mamas out there, happy Mother's Day! Thank you for all you do in being there day in and day out for your babies.   I know it can be tough, but hang in there.  A friend posted this video on Facebook and I thought I would share:
