The last two weeks have been a whirlwind. While the days and nights seem to all blur together, I cannot believe my baby boy is already 16 days old! Carter is absolutely amazing and we love him so much.
It has of course been an adjustment coming home...We didn't feel too tired the first several nights, due to the adrenaline and excitement of having a newborn I'm sure. But the new parent fatigue has definitely set in now! We keep hearing, "it gets better," (in regards to sleeptime), haha, and we are looking forward to that day :) But Carter is precious and we spend many hours of our day just looking at him in awe of the little miracle that he is. God is so amazing and we are so thankful he has blessed us with this little one.
Nick's mom and her husband came into town the Tuesday evening after we got home from the hospital and his brother joined us that Thursday night. We are so thankful for all of their help while they were out here and happy they had the opportunity to share Carter's first week. Now, my parents are here getting to play a little with their first grandbaby.
All of Carter's doctor appointments have gone well so far. The only concern was his weight loss (he lost over a pound his first week), but he is slowly but surely putting it back on. He is not quite back up to his birthweight of 8lbs12oz (he was 8lbs7oz at his weigh-in on Friday), but we're going back to the doctor to check on Wednesday. Breastfeeding has been a struggle for both me and our little man so far but we are sticking with it and hopefully Carter will get the hang of it soon!
Yesterday was Father's Day, and Nick and I are still so amazed that we are now able to celebrate these holidays. We just kept saying, "can you believe you are a father?!?" When I gave him his Father's Day gift, Nick looked at me and said, "But I didn't get you anything..." haha. He isn't used to having a holiday where we don't both give each other something.
Father's Day is of course bittersweet as Nick lost his dad five years ago. We wish he could be here to meet his grandson but are so thankful for the role he served in Nick's life and for the example of a father Nick has to look up to.
That's all for now...I only get a short break between all of our hungry man's feedings. Here are a few pictures from Carter's first two weeks at home:
