Look Who's Three!

I can hardly bring myself to type these next few words...as of June 4, 2014, I am a mommy of a three year old!  When did my baby boy grow up?!  I know that the years always fly by, and 2014 was no exception.  With a cross-country move, a pregnancy, and a delivery of a little brother, June certainly crept up on us!  I had originally thought of planning a party months in advance so that after Oliver was born, I would already have everything needed to throw Carter a bday bash like he's had in years past...But the closer the big day got, the more I realized the party would be more for me at this age.  (Plus, I knew I would be exhausted having a week old!).  So we decided to have a Carter day and we celebrated in ways we thought he would enjoy.  He went to school that morning and during his snack break, we took in a cake and goodie bags for his classmates.  He was even surprised with a few presents from some of the other students!  We picked him up from school and went to the mall for lunch where he got to pick out what he wanted to eat (he went with a chicken strip kids meal with a Green Lantern prize from Bob's Burgers).  Then we came back home where he had a coffee table full of presents waiting for him.  He had so much fun ripping into every one and playing with all his new toys :)  Then he took a good, long nap and when he woke up, we went to an indoor play park with his friend from church, Analice.  The two of them had a BLAST running, climbing, and jumping all around.  He's not the most adventurous little boy, so I thought he would probably stick to the baby play area, but he surprised us all by climbing to the top of the top, going down the tallest slides, and riding on the fast spinning ride.  It was so much fun to sit and watch him enjoying himself with his little friend.
So what is 3 year old Carter like?  Well, he's a babbling machine and his vocabulary is growing so much every day! He mixes some Portuguese words in his English phrases, which is pretty cute, and seems to be understanding a lot in both languages.  He still loves dinosaurs and also can't get enough of Veggie Tales, trains, sword fights, movies, singing, and more recently, building things.  He loves to play with mommy and daddy and is already such a sweet big brother to Oliver.  He's really turned into my big guy, and I can't help but feel a little sad when I look at him and no longer see a baby.  But I couldn't be more proud of who he is, nor more excited about what our Lord has in store for his life.  I'm so grateful I was chosen to be his mommy and pray I can treasure all of these special memories from his childhood for the rest of my life.
