Look What I Can Do!

Why, hello there blog world! Here's a brief recap of all that is going on in our (aka Carter's) life. It's funny how everything reorients to gravitate around such a little person :)

Dude is growing and growing and it seems as thought he learns something new each and every day! Here are some of his new 'tricks' and accomplishments since my last post:
-He rolls EVERYWHERE! He still hasn't shown much interest in crawling (and I am completely ok with that, he'll be into everything before I know it, haha). But when I put him down to play, he just rolls all around to get to whatever he wants :)
-He can stand! He doesn't pull up yet, but if you stand him up, he can hold on to something and keep himself in that position for a while. (Although he hasn't quite figured out letting go causes him to fall down...)
-He has 6 teeth! 4 on top and 2 on the bottom
-He learned to clap! He can do it when we ask and it is the cutest thing...
-He can feed himself finger food! I wasn't sure this day was ever going to come. Before, although he is perfectly able to pick up things (which he would do with his pacifier and toys) and put them in his mouth, he wanted to be handfed all of his Cheerios and Puffs. He would open his mouth wide and stick his hands out to the side. Now he picks up items from his tray and shoves them, fist and all, into his mouth :)
-He can fall asleep on his own in the crib! This transition occurred just this week and while we've been looking forward to the day I didn't have to rock him to sleep and then lay him down ever so carefully, I'm now a little sad he doesn't need his mama quite so much anymore...
-He is taking his morning nap in his crib! Little bit became quite accustomed to napping in his swing as a little bitty baby and we have had difficulty breaking this habit (especially when nap swings last several hours and he falls asleep so quickly and easily this way). But he will soon outgrow the swing so we are trying to transition both of his naps to the crib.
-He says dada! He had learned mama two months ago but almost all of his babble has turned to dada these days.
-He's got a cute little dimple on his right cheek about halfway up his nose and close to his nose. It shows up when he's smiling big or laughing hard and it is super cute :)
-He moved into the big bathtub! We found an inflatable duck bath tub we put in the big tub and he absolutely loves it!
-His hair is getting blonder and blonder and he has this really funny long hair (I'm talking 6 inches or longer) which comes out of the front of his forehead and I just can't bring myself to cut it...
-He got promoted to an older Sunday School class! So sad my baby is no longer considered a 'bed baby' :(
-He has outgrown his infant carrier car seat. We upgraded him to a longer carrier a friend let us borrow but he is pretty much too big for it now as well. We went to install his convertible car seat this weekend, sniff sniff, but it won't fasten tight enough in our car to keep from sliding forward. The manufacturer is sending us another part to try...
-His personality is really shining through! Little man is a bit of a goof, full of giggles, and quite the talker :) He makes us smile so much.

He is finally on a pretty set schedule - WAHOO! Although the exact times changes each day, the order of events remains the same. He wakes up around 8:30 (although he let me sleep until 10:30 twice last week!!!!) nurses and eats, plays, and takes a nap about 2-2.5 hours after waking up. He'll nap for 1-1.5 hours, nurse and eat, play, and take a nap about 2.5 hours later for about 2-2.5 hours. Then he'll nurse and eat, play, take a bath, nurse and go to sleep around 8:30 for a good 12 hour stretch! Man, my life is soooo different than just a few months ago, haha. I didn't think sleep would ever return to me...

We are absolutely LOVING this time with our baby and wish we could freeze time! (Although it would be nice to be out of school...) He is growing so fast and this has been such a fun stage with him. Can't believe we just have 2.5 more months until the big number 1...

  1. He is growing up too fast! He's adorable, but you need to tell him to stop! :-)

  2. As I read the words you have written, "I'm now a little sad he doesn't need his mama quite so much anymore..." - I wonder, do you suppose Amber can now understand the depth of her daddy's and my love for her?
All too well I know what you are feeling sweetheart. We raise our precious little ones to make it well in this world and ironically the better the job is accomplished, the more independent and self sufficient our children grow - and the less momma is needed. Train Carter to love his daddy and gently help Nick to realize the importance of doing that for you also. A child is never too old to let you know he/she need's your love!
